TREATMENT
Treatment of viral foot infections such as plantar warts and fungal infections such as nail or skin fungus.
Papillomas, or better known as plantar warts, are a common pathology in the population. It is an infection caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), and can cause a lesion on the foot that looks like a wart with pain, especially when pinched. Sometimes, they are confused with corns since corns can appear on top of these warts.
Its appearance may be due to different causes:
Excess sweating
Presence of heat and/or humidity in the feet
Use of public spaces without appropriate footwear (changing rooms, swimming pools, showers…)
Going to the consultation and treating the lesions caused by this virus as soon as possible is very important, since it is a highly contagious virus.
Onychomycosis is a fungal nail infection. It is considered the most common nail disease and can cause different nail alterations such as color change or thickening of the nail.
Treatment will depend on the symptoms, the appearance of the nail and how large the lesion is, and can be treated with topical, oral or other medications.
Although sometimes it only presents as a change in color or detachment of the nail and does not cause excessive discomfort, it is important to provide treatment since otherwise the fungus will continue to advance and that it be supervised by the podiatrist.
Athlete’s foot is a foot infection caused by fungi and the part that is most frequently affected is the interdigital spaces. It will be observed in the form of fissures, peeling skin and/or maceration between the fingers and can cause discomfort such as itching, stinging, bad odor, reddened area and pain.
Treatment will depend on the injury and the patient. In addition, specific preventive measures will be recommended to prevent it from reappearing.
